What is Breathwork?
Breathwork is the conscious and intentional use of the breath through various breathing techniques. In bringing awareness to the breath in this way it influences our mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
In the many healing modalities that I have explored and applied, I have most extensively studied breathwork as I have found it to be the most accessible and beneficial. In the Yoga tradition, the word prana is used to describe the breath which in Sanskrit translates to “life force”. The breath is a direct line to our body, our nervous system, our emotions, our vitality, our spirit, and our essence. Breathwork provides this powerful link between mind and body, between the conscious and the unconscious. I utilize a variety of somatic tools, but find the breath to be the most accessible and gentle gateway into the body.
I primarily work with a style of breathwork that involves active breathing meant to bring about deep healing and transformation. This breathwork technique allows the body to process and alchemize its felt experience. It can be used to heal trauma, access our subconscious, rewire neural pathways, release stuck emotion and physical pain, prepare for and integrate psychedelic therapies, support recovery from addiction, connect more deeply to ourselves and others, gain clarity, have a spiritual experience, and open our hearts. Among its many benefits, this style of breathwork helps in releasing that which no longer serves us in order to create space for more loving and intentional lives.
I work with many breathwork techniques and offer whichever is best suited to the client’s needs. I apply my knowledge as a Trauma Informed Coach to ensure safety throughout the practice.
